Re: The Well: wpr101
Someone who smells, or who has an unwashed guard is much worse. Also somebody who has a hairy chest and sweats a lot can be disgusting. I don't mind unclipped nails nearly as much, the worst result of that is you get cut, and there are worse injuries to concern yourself with.
One tip I would give is don't wait for pain on join extension submissions. You can test the limits more on chokes though. Once I wanted to wait till it hurt from an armbar... that was a terrible idea, I woke up the next day barely able to move my arm :D
Our main instructor has a story once about a black belt match. About 1 minute left in the match, one guy gets the other in a armbar that is fully extended and locked up. Everybody watching assumes the match is over. The guy just refuses to tap, and the other guy is holding the submission for 30+ seconds. He said the guy being sumbitted showed no pain or emotion. Finally the guy who had the arm bar let the submission go cause he wasn't going to get the tap from it.
My instructor said he couldn't figure out at all how the guy was not tapping; nobody understood how he didn't show pain. But then he went back in the locker room and say the guy who did not tap, he was in an arm sling, and crying like a French school girl with ice on his arm. My instructor said if you are in a serious fight or confrontation, don't like your opponent know he is hurting you or winning, always have a poker face :D
