NL20-s. Kus ise müttasid?

                Re: Härra Tuule pokkeristatistika

OrcaAoc kirjutas pokerstrategy foorumis väga asjaliku posituse sellest, millele professionaalse mängijana tähelepanu peaks pöörama

The most important factor in the decision you make should be what is more fun working in a regular job or working as a poker player. The difficulty with that is that it is hard to say which is more fun while you havent done neither on a fulltime base for a longer time period. However reading your post the decision becomes pretty easy anyway in my point of view especially because of this :

So to me it sounds that is very unlikely that poker could be worse if you like the game at all. All other considerations are pretty irrelevant in my opinion, it really doesnt matter too much if you 'only' make 2000$/month as long as you are happy with what you are doing.
Since I suspect you will go for it, I think some pointers on what you should avoid playing as a pro might be quite helpful :

                - You should focus on becoming better and avoid multitable grinding, if you grind fulltime poker will get very odd pretty soon most likely and thats exactly what you dont want to happen at all.

                - It would be good if you are capable of playing different poker games on a competetive level for two reason. First if you get bored you can switch to another game. Second Hold Them might be not as popular/profitabel in 5 years and you might have to switch to a different game.

                - You shouldnt play too much at nights, if you do stay up all night regulary it is very unhealthy. I know many players which fall into this trap because they can earn more money, in my opinion this is just dumb because the gain in earning more money is relatively small if you do already earn a decent amount anyway. Ruining your health on the other side is a very high price for that.

                - You should make sure that you do some sport or fitness training on a regular base otherwise sitting in front of your pc is likely to cause gaining weight and you might get problems with your back also.

                - You should make sure that your chair in front of your pc is a pretty good one . Personally I use a gymnastic ball as a chair (which is probably best) but I know that this is not everybodys thing and there are reasonable good chairs out there too.

                - Healthy Eating can help you here also. If you eat healthy it not only avoids becoming a fat pig, it can actually help you to play better because you will be more sharp and concentrated in general.

                - Focusing on psycholigical factors becomes more important being a pro. The first thing is if you play on a causual base and freak out while playing a poker session you can take a longer brake very easily. If you play fulltime it becomes odd to stop playing for a longer while. Secondly tilting or even semitilting totally ruins the fun, since one key thing being a pro is to keep the game fun you want to avoid things at all which ruin it. If you have a Stox Poker Account I encourage you to watch all Videos from Jared Tendler which is their psychology coach.

                - You want to think a little bit on how to answer questions about what you are doing for a living.Since Poker is completly legal in the UK to my knowledge at least you dont have the akwarded problem that you cant say everything to anybody like we poor germans have traurig
However you still want to think about how to approach this. In my oppinion the best way to deal with it is just to answer like it was a 'normal' Job. If you start out like : I play poker ... but you dont have to be upset its not a game of luck you dont have to be scared I loose my house ... etc. etc.
that will be bad for two reasons. First you will encourage people to think you are a weird loosing gambler that ruins his live if you start defending right away. Secondly you will feel bad that you have to explain the obvious and nobody will understand anyway and just phrase silly comments like - you will always loose in a casino etc. So in my oppinion you want to avoid explaining the nature of poker to fishes. Most people are already to dumb to get the product with the relativly lowest price if offered two different package sizes.
Explaining even the easiest of the easiest mathematic realities to those kind of people is totally hopeless. In my oppinion you should answer the what are you doing for a living questions with something like : Im a proffessional Poker player - period. If you talk to a non braindead person which is actually not totally prejudiced and might be even interested in the topic he or she will ask you question which you can answer then.

                - You want to make sure Poker doesnt take control of your live. That is avoid playing to much. If you play a couple of hours a day it is enough, save some freetime and do some things which you would do in freetime on a normal job too. Reading what you have planed as a schedule you are in danger to take the thing too serious. I know where you are coming from, you want to make sure you dont get sloppy standing up at three afternoon. While this is perfectly fine you should take care of this with not playing at nights too much and living helathy. If you take poker too serious it is always dangerous since bad results might make you feel unhappy and scared.

                - If you play proffessional you should always have a very conservative Bankrollmanagment. If you are underolled getting in a downswing it will really be a pain if you have no other income. So for FL I wouldnt even think abouth playing with less than 1000BB, for NL you shoud have at least 100 Stacks preferably more.

                - I saved the best advice for last - Have Fun !
